I finally found a solution: FIRST you need to enlarge the Sound Show Display window AND THEN activate the fullscreen mode. Switching to fullscreen from the small default window only stretches the image to fullscreen with a low resolution. At least, that's how it is on my MacBook Pro. This might be useful to someone.
